Now that we grasped the concept, let's get into the 7 pillars.

1. You Can Be Great

The 80/20 principle states that it is possible for anyone to achieve greatness.

You can be great.

The key:

Do not spend your time trying to figure out how much effort you will need to become great at something.

Instead:

Figure out what is the right thing for you to do.

-What does make you great?

-What does make you come alive?

-In which area are you the best?

If you're spending your time on everything else,

you're just going to be wasting your life away, never getting to that point of greatness.

Find that field where you excel.

Work on that.

That may be where you're spending minimum effort, but getting the most benefit from.

That is the area where you will get exponential results.

2. Choose Your Allies

Your nerwork is crucial, we all know that.

Choosing allies and brother whom you can trust, it's how humanity could evolve.

The fact is, most people are creating their connection wrongly.

The allies they have are by default.

They just happened to run into certain kinds of people and hence they associated with them.

That's how they choose -- or how they don't choose -- their allies.

Oftentimes you have too many allies that aren't adding any value to the connection
Most important, you don't know how to use your allies, how to be able to leverage them.

That's not a problem as you can easily fix this.

Pick a few allies that have influence and attention
Find people that have tons of other connections
Choose a couple of great individuals that are going to really help you win
Leverage their strengths and they will leverage yours.

That's the power of allies.

You help each other out and you build each other up and get exponential results in the process.

3. Design Your Own Game

Most people are playing the game of their own life.

They're letting their parents and society rule it, making them lose repeatedly.

They didn't design their life, that's why they can't win.

As 80/20 thinker,

you need to design our game, that you want to play and know how to win easily.

Those with default conditioning are actually playing someone else's game.

They're simply wasting their time playing others' games and society's games.

Anything but their own game, which is what really matters.

The greatest innovations and accomplishments,

come from people who created and succeed in their own unique pursuits.

They're designing their own races of life and are playing in those races, winning in those races,

and that's what you have to do.

4. Achievement Island/Desert

As you look back at your life, you'll see:

short periods of time with extreme results (Achievement Islands)
long periods of time with almost no results (Achievement Deserts)

Wonder what's going on?

Stick with me.

Make a list of all the times in your life where you've had these Achievement Islands.
- Where have you had extreme results in very short durations of time?
- What are the key characteristics of those situations?
- Why did you get those results?

Make a list of all the times you almost got no results, despite trying
- Why didn't I get almost any result in this period of time?
- What are the key characteristics of those situations?
- What should I have improved?

3. Focus on the things that were getting maximum results.

With this strategy, you can't miss.

5. 80/20 in Relationships

When it comes to relationships, the 80/20 principle still holds true.

80% of your relationships give you only 20% value
20% of your relationships give you 80% value

So what you need to do is ensure that you're spending 80% of your relationship-time on the 20% of those high-quality relationships.

These are your high-leverage people, the relationships that are creating the most value.

Many people tend to spray their effort with a lot of different relationships all over the place,

which aren't contributing to their growth.

As an 80/20 practitioner, utilize the fourth pillar and:

Develop deep relationships with them.
Spend a lot of quality-time together in order to improve mutually

6. Ruthlessly Prune

You must cut down to get massive results.

Most of you utilize 80% of your effort and mental energy toward useless or wrong actions.

To truly thrive, we need to ruthlessly prune our activities:

Eliminate activities, relationships, and projects that don’t add significant value.
Concentrate your efforts on the top 20% that yield the best results.
Reduce distractions to amplify productivity in crucial areas.

That's why Jack Welch at G.E said was:

"We're only going to do things that we can be in the Top 2 to Top 3 in the world.

If we're not in the Top 2 or Top 3, then we're going to stop doing those things."

8. Multiply Your Output

In order to multiply our output,

we need to move our resources from an unproductive place to a productive one.

Picture this:

A hammer works great with a nail,

but it doesn't come useful when cutting a piece of cloth.

Similarly, a pair of scissors is great at cutting a piece of cloth,

ut entirely useless when it comes to hammering a nail.

Both these resources are very powerful,

but they have to be used in the right arena and that's the key.

That's the 80/20 rule.

The understanding that the resource needs to be used in the right arena where you get 10x, 100x, even 1000x more improvement or higher productivity.

The same holds with you.
